Parent–Child Communication Patterns In Surah Yusuf And Their Relevance To Modern Family Communication

This study aims to analyze the patterns of parent-child communication in Surah Yusuf and their relevance to modern family life. The research is motivated by the crucial role of communication in shaping children's character, openness, and personality development, as well as the existing research gap regarding communication patterns under conditions of family separation. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research, applying a thematic method by examining verses in Surah Yusuf related to family communication. Primary data are derived from classical and contemporary tafsir literature, while secondary data are obtained from relevant scholarly sources. The findings reveal that communication patterns in Surah Yusuf can be classified into three main relational forms: communication between Prophet Yusuf and Prophet Ya‘qub, communication between Prophet Yusuf and non-biological authority figures, and communication between Prophet Ya‘qub and his other sons. These patterns reflect values such as selective openness, honesty, empathy, advice, trust, and conflict management through patience and forgiveness. In the contemporary context, these patterns are highly relevant for modern families, particularly in addressing the challenges of the digital era through open communication, wise supervision, and the cultivation of patience and faith. Therefore, Surah Yusuf offers a contextual and applicable model of family communication for fostering harmonious family relationships.
